Sophie Marquis grew up in Guernsey and went onto Durham University to read Economics, Art History, Classics and Philosophy. Following her love of art and antiques to Sotheby's to gain a Masters in Fine and Decorative Art, specialising in Impressionist Paintings and 18th Century British Porcelain.
Sophie's began her career with roles for art fairs, dealers, artists, the Art & Antiques Unit at the Met and in the Finance sector. It was working as a specialist at an auction house that she discovered her passion for gemstones seeing them as the perfect combination between art and science, and went into luxury jewellery and watch retail. She gained her gemmological diploma becoming a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.
In 2017 Sophie went treasure hunting, visiting important gemstone centres. Highlights include venturing down a tanzanite mine at Merelani, negotiating for spinel and ruby at the Luc Yen gemstone market in Vietnam and panning for padparadscha sapphire in Sri Lanka.
